As North American travelers began to seek more and different experiences in China, it became necessary for off-the-beaten path cities, such as Nanjing, to build awareness as a desirable destination for North American travelers. Because of its experience in PR and media relations, contacts within the travel trade industry, and a deep understanding of the North American travel consumer, PHG Consulting was hired to create a strategic plan to build significant and sustainable brand awareness for Nanjing in North America. We began with a deep research study to assess perceptions and behaviors among the North American consumer and travel trade, worked extensively with local receptive operators to create new and unique packages and tourism product, hosted educational FAM trips for media and travel agents, and developed an online marketing plan and a website targeted to North American travelers.
